There are open routes into the country from Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia – it should be noted that travel via the Russian routes is not at all recommended, as they take routes through numerous dangerous and disputed regions. The route from Armenia is also notorious for bandits and robberies on the way. It has been widely reported that border crossing guards sometimes expect bribes to pass through. An International Driving Permit is required for driving in Georgia.
